How should you start your journey of digital marketing? 

Well, the first thought that comes to your mind is that by doing some course or self-learning. So, let me tell you that I have tried learning digital marketing on my own, tried doing some free courses too. And, yes all this will help; it will make you aware of the different resources that are there in this digital world, but it is a slow process that requires consistency and patience.

That is when I realized that, it is important to have some mentor who will guide you on digital marketing in this fast-growing world, as every day there is some new development in the digital marketing field. While going through one such online webinar, I came across this internship training program conducted by Digital Deepak

So, here's a guide about what to start doing to be the best in this ever prospering field, which I learned during the first class of the training program.

Start writing down your goals: Follow a schedule, make a timetable, and list down what your goals are- short term goals, long term goals, professional goals, and personal goals. Your short terms goals or personal goals can include something as simple as reading a page of a book or writing a paragraph and improving communication skills. Long term goals or professional goals might include being a digital marketer, improving sales, or personal branding.




Master your Communication Skills: Communication is a key skill in becoming a digital marketer. You should always strive to improve your communication skills as it will help not only in digital marketing but in other areas of life. Some of the ways to improve your communication skills are:
  • READ - Read every day for at least 30 minutes. You can start with some magazines, newspapers or some simple books.
  • WRITE - Writing improves your understanding of a subject and improves your grammar. You can write whatever you feel like, but start writing.
  • LISTEN - Listen to podcasts and songs every day. Try to understand the tone of the language and the words used.
  • WATCH - It is said then when you watch something, you remember it better. Watch movies, comedy shows, documentaries, English sitcoms to enhance your understanding of different subjects and improve your vocabulary.
    You can always make learning fun by trying to solve crosswords and puzzles.
Spending some time of the day on improving this very important skill will be beneficial even in the long run. Don't let communication and language be a barrier to your success story. 




Select a Niche: So, what exactly is the niche? Niche is something related to a
product or service or interest that appeals to a small, specialized section of the society. It is something that you are passionate about, you have some experience of it and which you can market in some way or the other. 

So how would you select a niche? Well, you can see if you can answer these questions. The answer to these questions is what is your niche -
  • What is that one thing about which you can write/talk/express 50 aspects at a time?
  • What is that thing which makes you happy and you enjoy doing it?
  • What is that thing you are good at and which you can always keep on learning?
  • Would that field give you a marketing opportunity somehow? (If you try, most of the fields can be marketed in today's time.)
If you try to answer these questions successfully, you would find your niche. Don't stress about marketing your niche at the beginning of the journey. You will eventually learn how to market your product, service, or yourself successfully.




Find Market Demand: Once you have improved your communication skills and found out your niche, the next thing to do is determine what exactly is the market demand. You will see that in our society, there is always a gap between theoretical and practical things.  If you have an idea and you know about some gap in society, use it to fill the gap and that will be something beneficial for the society as well as for your personal growth.

For example, consider a person who is good at some skills, such as public speaking, technology, and business sense. That person can start imparting his knowledge to others. Public speaking will enable him to talk with large groups of people and engage them in conversations. He can teach others the different aspects of technology and convert this into a good business, which benefits society as well as he develops his own personal brand name.

This example tells how you can start something of your own that is as said by Deepak sir - Scratch your own Itch - just like he did.

Some resources that you can use to understand the market demands are -
  • Google and Amazon review about different products.
  • Reading Quora answers and different blogs available on the internet regarding your niche.
  • Talking to people around you to understand the demand for a product or service.
  • Using Google forms and Google surveys for market research.
  • Understand the pre and post services provided by different companies for their products and services. 
Personal Branding: What is personal branding? Personal branding is developing your career reputation and maintaining your impression which helps you showcase your best qualities and talent. You need to be the best-known person. You can do this by showcasing your character and personality in the form of content on social media. Do not hesitate to stand out in the crowd. Some tips that I learned in my class are -
  • Just be yourself. Do not try to fit in.
  • Always adapt your own style.
  • Build your own image within the community.
  • Publish different types of content on different platforms of social media.
  • Write blogs, make videos for social platforms, communicate with people.
When you have built your personal brand, people want to hear and know more about you and this increases your brand value. People are more interested in personal brands rather than commercial brands. Based on your brand value and brand image, you can start your own business and your own community of people who admire your work.

Understanding the working of funnels: Funnels are the building blocks of any marketing field. Based on the funnel, you can understand the potential customers for your product or service.
  • Awareness: Rule one is to make people aware of the product or service that you are providing that is to understand the market potential. This is going to be a wider search and a larger group of people.
  • Interest: Rule two is to find how many people are interested in your product or service. These people are the ones who are the suspects and who would like to know more about your product or service.
  • Desire: Rule three is to understand how many of the suspected people would be your prospects and would have a desire to purchase your product or service. This is where you narrow down your potential customers.
  • Action: Rule four is to provide your potential customer some offer, scheme, or some gift so that they act and are ready to be your customers. These are going to be the brand ambassadors of your product and service. They will be the ones who will be using the product or service and spread word of mouth about your product. The service provided by you before and after the purchase is of utmost importance and it will help your customers understand that you are a trustworthy and reliable person.
The most important aspect of any business or any field is to create mass trust. The more the number of people trust you and believe in your product or service, the more it will be beneficial for the marketing of your product or service. Thus, building trust, automating the funnels, and building relationships with your customers on automation are some important aspects of understanding the working of funnels.

Once you have started this journey of self-development and educating the masses by creating mass trust, slowly and steadily you can learn about the different aspects of Integrated Digital Marketing such as Social Media, SEO, Email Marketing, Organic Traffic, Paid Advertising, and Content Marketing.
